Type 1 diabetes

Insulin replacement is not a cure. Restoring β-cell function could be.

Modern insulin delivery and glucose monitoring keep people alive and have transformed disease management. They do not rebuild the insulin-producing cells lost through autoimmune injury, and they do not restore the body’s own glucose control.

Type 1 diabetes is often described as the near-total and irreversible loss of β-cells. The loss is profound, but the biology is more complex. Low-level endogenous insulin production persists in many people years after diagnosis, and human pancreas studies have identified surviving cells that retain insulin-producing potential.

That residual capacity creates the therapeutic opportunity Elvinix is built on: not to replace insulin from outside the body, but to recover and expand insulin-producing capacity from within.

Elvinix is developing a therapy designed to recover the pancreas’s own insulin-producing capacity in people with established, insulin-treated T1D. By working with the patient’s existing biology, the program aims to provide a practical and scalable path toward durable endogenous glucose control.

Elvinix’s scientific foundation traces to the work of Dr Alex Rabinovitch, whose laboratory helped establish the regenerative potential of gastrin signaling and the complementary activity of gastrin and GLP-1 in restoring functional β-cell mass in preclinical models.

Elvinix holds an exclusive license from Zealand Pharma to a dual-receptor agonist peptide platform, the underlying patent families and an extensive package of preclinical data. The company has expanded that foundation through proprietary therapeutic insight, combinatorial IP, additional preclinical work and a growing intellectual property portfolio.
